I found the chondrocytes of elastic cartilage in some adult species such as rats is exactly similar to white fat cells. Can anyone explain the role of large fat droplets seen in chondrocytes in such situation?
Fat-rich chondrocytes. This type of cartilage is known as lipocartilage found in the auricle of small rodents and bat. It also found in the skull of the amphibian larvae (pelobates fusca). Fat-rich chondrocytes considered as a transitory cell type which give rise a cartilage rich matrix
