Hi. I currently working on the bio-valorization of lignin. I have screened for lignin degrading bacteria from different environments. I now want to test for the bacteria's ability to degrade different dyes, methylene blue, ABTS and phenol red. The bacteria that I have isolated turn the phenol red PINK and not the typical yellow. Pink indicates an increase in the media pH. Any articles that have reported on something similar finding?
ABTS is not a dye, it does not absorb light in the visible light range. One electron oxidation of ABTS forms a stable brightly green colored radical. This radical is rather reactive and the most likely will be reduced back to ABTS in your system. I would recommend you to remove ABTS from your list.
