I have performed an experience in order to intercalate small molecules into a lamellar nanomaterial type layered double hydroxides. The molecule used in the experience was a monomer (A) added in the synthesis reaction then the dimmer (B) in second experience. The investigation with XRD gives the same profile only the principal Pick change in intensity and not in the position (2theta is conserved). Compared with a control material (c) that contains the anion, the intensity increase by 1.2 times from control to monomer and doubled in case of dimmer compared to monomer. May question is: can I admit that the molecules were intercalated into the inter-reticular spaces of layered double hydroxides or not and the anion have been exchanged, then what is the significance when the molecule is double in structure and the intensity of the pick? Was the amount of samples the same during the XRD measurement? If not, you can not compare to them. Or is there any change in ration between intensity of peaks in same sample. For example, the intensity increase by 1.2 times from control to monomer and doubled in case of dimmer compared to monomer. But the proportional change;
in control material ration of (111)/(200); 3.15,
in your materil ratio of (111)/(200); 3.15.
So, there is no difference between materials.
I think, you may check your intensity.

Intensity variations are very often texture "problems". I have no idea how did you prepared your sample. In case it is a powder I would not be surprised if you will use the SAME material and only two samples (a second time prepared) that you will observe significant differences in intensity but not in peak position and width.
Moreover, in case you do not observe any change in peak positions I would consider that during your experiment nothing happend, since a formation of another phase (be generating a second layer) will certainly change anything (not only the intensity). The sensitivity of XRD is therefore used to recognize phase changes. If there would not change anything, how do you want distinguish between both phases?

In the experiences the clay was modified by the molecules "A" firstly or a dimer "A-A", I thought that de scherrer distance is changed during the intercalation which allow me to interprete that this distance depend on the mi-higher of the pic then I can conclude that the molecules A or A-A were inercalated between the layers of the layered doubles hydroxides whithout changing the phase
I agree with you. Therefore, the peak positions should change and not only the intensities of the peaks which are for layered structures commonly hard to measure without any texture.
Hi Slah. I agree with Pr. Gert. You should observe significant change of you diffractogram: Shift and change of shape of your pics.
