In Germany landfill recultivation layers are often made from soil types like sandy loam. There are requirements for the field capacity, the air capacity, and the permability, fixed in Technical Recommendations. The focus of the criteria is usually set on soil mechanics. Are there any other countries which have norms or standards for the requirements of landfill recultivation layers, including the testing methodologies ?
Yes they are. Actually for the EU countries it has been covered by the EU Directives.
There are for sure in Ukraine and Russia (they have Technical Standards in Mining industry). I am quite sure there are some norms in Australia as well (but they also make some research trials). Dear Jiri and Sergiy, thanks for the feedback. The general strategy to landfill and mining recultivation we know very well from numerous projects. What we are looking for are the detailed criteria, which maybe are fixed for soil parameters like the field capacity, the wilting point, the permeability and the air capacity as we intend to put them in a context with german regulations for the landfill closure and recultivation. Well, I am quite aware of the State Standards usable mostly in countries of Former USSR. There is a differentiation depending on the type of bedrock material which has to be covered and the quality of stored soil for the recultivation. As a standard (without any additional information) is taken 10-15 cm, which can be changed depending on the conditions (if you can translate Russian: http://docs.cntd.ru/document/gost-17-5-3-05-84). Then the person who makes a recultivation project had to follow main guidelines and can alter then using certain principles. Hope this helps.

Hopefully we can find also information from more countries, as our scope is to get an overview how the criteria and requirements in the German standards (BQS 7.1) fit with standards on internationale scale.
