Hi all,
I wanted to ask if anyone has used Nylon or PTFE lab-thread tape to stop leakage from 50 mL Falcon tubes. This is basically an inert tape that you would wrap around the top of a 50 mL Falcon before putting the lid on, to stop liquid from escaping through the threads. Can anyone tell me their experience using it, and any product recommendations?
I'm sure people will tell me that the 50 mL Falcon tubes shouldn't leak, but it happens occasionally during my overnight incubations at 37°C with end-to-end rotation, and there's nothing in my buffer that would weaken the plastic (like organic solvents). I even bought "leak-proof" 50 mL conicals from Corning and they still leaked....Even though leakage happens infrequently, each run of this experiment costs ~$2000 and is very labour intensive, so I'm looking for a better solution.
Thanks for your help!
