I don't have any publications in mind. In Golestan NP, Iran (the westernmost extent of the Hyrcanian forests) both species occur. Wildcat observations are very rare in the rest of the Hyrcanian forests where jungle cat density is much higher. In other parts of Iran, they might co-occur but jungle cat distribution is restricted to the vicinity of water bodies while wildcat occurs in a variety of habitats (except extreme deserts, high mountains, and dense forests).
Hi @Arash thanks for the information. What I know from Turkey is that they co-occur in Çukurova plain and Lakes Region. Around Akyatan lagoon in Çukurova, in the sand dune plantations jungle cat densitiy is very high (my unpublished camera trap survey) and wildcat is totally excluded from this habitat. In most of the wetlands in Turkey either one or the other occur alone.
Any other exapmles for coexistence or interactions RG members?
All of the species co-exists in Indian Subcontinent.
The Jungle Cat (Felis chaus) exists throught the light vegetation forests of India especially in the Central Indian Landscape. The Wildcat (Felis silvestris) has a presence in western Indian landscape and the famous Western Ghats Landscape popular for its rich wildlife. The Asiatic Wildcat (Felis lybica ornata) although contradicting what it's common name suggest, is also found in India, specifically in Thar Desert region of the State of Rajasthan in India.
