Dear Experts,
Considering the good quality research publication, I need your suggestions on journal selection. What should be considered while selecting a journal for publication of a good quality paper, either journal category (like Q1, Q2, etc) or impact factor (Like 4,5,6) particularly in the Marketing Research?
I observed some journals having Q1 with low IF and some journals having Q2 with high IF like 3 or 4. Your feedback will be highly appreciated. Thank you
Personally I go for journals that are recognized by our local authorities especially if publications need to be used for promotions.
Some renowned journals in my field do not really have high impact factors.
Quality can be of great standards but if people can not access them due to subscription requirements or expensive to purchase so they won't be read and as a result not cited reducing IF.

Journal selection mostly dependent on the impact factor ( IF) supposed to be a common criteria for the quality of the journal.
Dear Asif, the question of how to select the best journal for a new manuscript have been asked on this platform many times. Just search for the "Questions" section of RG to find and read various closely related threads. Most often some of the well-known journal finders are suggested (which in my opinion are of little use). Personally I never cared about the journal categories (like Q1, Q2, etc.). Of yourse you can take them into consideration if you wish. We normally take into account only the impact factor of the journal. In our field of research (chemistry) there are many reputable journals available with impact factors ranging from ca. 0.5 to over 40. Journals with impact factors in the range of ca. 1-4 are perfectly OK for publishing "normal" research results. Only an impact factor (even a low one) ensures that your work is read worldwide and is eventually cited. Please note that impact factors of journals can only be compared within a certain field of research, not between different disciplines. Personally I suggest that you go for a journal which you regularly read in order to keep up with the latest developments in your field. If possible, go for the journal in which the leading experts in your field of research publish. Also make sure that the topic of your manuscript perfectly matches the scope of the journal. Frank T. Edelmann Thank you very much for your comprehensive response. Yes, I agree with your opinion. Actually, I am from Business Management field. In our field, some journals are like Q1 but with low IF, however some journals are with high IF but fall in Q2. That's why I raised this question to know other scholars' opinion on this point.
IF is a general quality criterion based on citations, whereas, quartiles are field specific. if you want to be an expert in a specific niche, do consider quartiles of that niche category it will help you to generate more citations of your work.
You can select the right journal base on many factors such as scope, impact factor, indexation, potential readers, journal ranking, etc.
