I might be publishing my Master's dissertation paper and my supervisor adjusted my data and now 2 of my constructs' cronbach's alpha are 0.6.
I have been looking for a good journal article where their cronbach's alpha values were 0.6 to see how they present it and also use it as a reference but I cannot find one. I have a lot of articles stating that 0.6 to 0.7 is the lower level of acceptability, however I have not found any articles using less than 0.7 values.
Any suggestions?
I do not think placing a reference will resolve the matter; you may present a justification for the low Cronbach's alpha, and state this under the study limitations. You may aim to submit your manuscript to a journal listed in PubMed; it may be challenging to get it published in a journal with impact factor.
The problem with a low alpha is that it will "attenuate" your ability to correlate these scales with other variables. More specifically, an alpha of .6 corresponds to only 36% reliable variance, versus 64% random variance, which is why most journal will not accept data with a low alpha.
