I'm deal with phenol, i dissolve phenol with distilled water with certain concentration. I prepared this phenol solution around one or two month ago...but i'm doubtful about its concentration now because i read that phenol is volatile compound. So, if i prepare phenol solution with concentration 0.05 g/L two month ago, isn't the same phenol solution contain same concentration or not?....thank you for the help..
The phenol solutions are stable for 3-6 months provided they are protected from exposure to light. The best way is to validate the solution at regular intervals to make sure that your results are accurate. The change in color of the phenol solution to yellow or brown will also indicate the degradation of the reagent. It is safe to use after proper validations of the stored solutions .
