I have previously used the free software program ImageJ, however it did not allow me to do everything that I hope to do.
I am looking at purchasing WinCELL and would like some feed back on how successful and accurate others have found it for measuring the following:
-Conduit diameter
-Conduit density
-Inter-vessel wall thickness
I have attached an image that is similar to what I will be analysing.

ImageJ can handle all the tasks you mentioned and many more (including automation). The problem with imageJ is that it not have a friendly user interface.
Order a trial version of WinCELL and see if it fits your needs.

An alternative program for WinCELL to measure vessels parameters can be ROXAS: http://www.wsl.ch/dienstleistungen/produkte/software/roxas/index_EN
ROXAS base on Image-pro Plus software.
