PV could be valuable for less experienced trainee to determine the position of the cervix, length before start the hysteroscopy
We do believe that pelvic examination prior to office hysteroscopy is neither mandatory nor necessary. Patients who come to hysteroscopy office usually hand out the result of ultrasound examination where position of uterus is clearly described (AVF or RVF). However, vaginal examination might be helpful in older women in postmenopause who do not have results of US examination. Namely, sometimes it is difficult to enter the cavum in these patients. Therefore, in order to avoid uterine perforation (while using Versapoint to enter cavum) it is worth to perform vaginal (or US) examination prior to hysteroscopy procedure.
At our department, which serves as a ESGE acknowledged training centre for ambulatory hysteroscopy, we do app 1400 ambulatory hysteroscopy each year.
