I would not keep tomato or banan in a refrigerator for another reason, because they lose their sensory quality FAST in the cold (see color of peel of banana and aroma of tomato).
I do keep tomatoes in the fridge in the summer (UK) because I think they keep for longer. But would never keep bananas in the fridge - I think it spoils them.
I don't think I've ever seen this advice in the handbook when I've bought a fridge.
Have just looked in my current handbook and most of the advice regarding food relates to freezing. Nothing about fresh fruit and vegetables.
Hello, Aluminum gets corroded only when cleaning agents above pH 9.0 and lower than pH4.0 are used. The severe corrosion leads to dissolution of Aluminum oxide layer, which in the range of pH 4.0 - 9.0 acts as a protection, by acting as a barrier. So, I do not think keeping tomato and banana in aluminum tube finned evaporator will harm the evaporator. However, if you are using certain condiments and seasonings with the above mentioned fruits care must be taken.
