A professor goes to a conference, presenting a talk on the results that were completely made by his PhD student, and doesn't include the name of the student in the list of authors in abstract, he doesn't mention the name in the presentation. He didn't tell the student about his plans to present it, and didn't tell he was even going to this conference.
I am clubbing the aforesaid postings. Not at all, highly unethical.
Simply he/she can't do it. A professor who is supposed to guide his/her student/researcher right from the conceptualization of research question to the outcome of the research (may be a presentation and/or a publication), .......A really long road passed through series of hard work of ultimate success, surpassing many problems, failures, toilings,...,...., cannot even think so.
The professor's role being igniting the tender minds to go for a noble work for the welfare of humans and/or nature........not giving due recognition to their hard work is highly unethical and condemnable.
Even in case of joint publication name of the supervisor should not come first. I have seen such an instance recently.
This types of situations I am seeing nowdays very common. And this is really a unethical practice performed by many supervisors.
What are possible way to stop such practices in the near future? Do you think there is need for bringing some laws?
Yes. University should enact strict rules. Has UGC some rules? Anyone aware of?
The PhD student should be mentioned in any article or presentation related to his research.
It’s not ethical.
It is so surprising that some proffessors endanger their reputation by doing such a thing.
This behavior is completely immoral, the supervisor must put the name of the doctoral student before his name on the research paper and tell the student that he will participate in a scientific conference on the doctoral research. This part of the ethics of the teaching profession and scientific research.

But we have to see one more very important thing. Like what will be the consequences of such wrong practices perform by supervisors on to the students career and there behavior and respect towards supervisors?
I even perform a small survey, and come to know that in many case phD students, don't even have freedom to speak something related to there own ideas and views in front of supervisors.
So talking about the research articles, asking for his/her name in conferences are the distance dream.
Dear Subir Bandyopadhyay , that is the major problem. Because as per my knowledge is concern no such rule so far has been enforced by UGC.
UGC should come with some guidelines, where the organization clearly mention that when the supervisor supervise the master or phD students they are not allow to take the first authorship in the research articles/conference proceedings, if the student have perform the research work.
If the students research project does not contain his or her first name in research article or conference proceeding, then students will not be awarded with master or phD degree.
This criteria need to be adopted in most part of the countries.
Because this unethical practices are performed in many developing countries in the world.

That is the definition of ideal supervisor and same need to be followed by everyone who ever are involved in such as profession of supervision.
One of the phD scholars says that "By the rules of my own university, my professor shouldn’t be listed as an author on many of my papers, but I still add him because he demands it". My professor is in a position of power, and refusing to do so could limit my own career opportunities.

Everyone says there is a need to transform the academic system so that integrity and honesty are the norm in terms of authorship as well as data and results.
But how far we are success in achieving the above goal?
Many debates have been (and are) ongoing on authorship.
The situation described corresponds to "robbery".
It is an immoral and undignified act.
If you look around the world, you will find lot of well-known professors have groups so big that it is practically impossible for them to spend enough time on each project to warrant authorship of papers. Yet in most cases they still claim authorship.
Is it good to do so? Did you like to provide any tips to them?
Is this a real or a hypothetical case? If the former - the professor should be demoted, if all is true. If the latter - most of responders will give a similar condemnation reply.
No, it is unacceptable. In addition to being ethically flawed, it is also theft of labor.
It is absolutely unethical, except if the Prof has paid them off all those that worked on his ideas, so he can claim 100% contribution to the work
In the line of the presentation , situation demands an atmosphere & when their involvement of their action of presentation in the conference one can not ignore the associated group for which certain discussion may have play the part .In this line it is likely that his associated group may not have appreciated the situation
This is my personal opinion
It is not acceptable (it is clear) but situations of this type are the rule in the university system, as the system tends to exploit the work of the students for the exclusive benefit of the teachers, who are regularly protected by their colleagues.
Well my concern is, if the professor is presenting the work of the students in conferences, then what is the problem in putting the name in abstract and presentation. No doubt that work was conducted under professor supervision. But is this not the fact that students uses his/her physical and mental action in completing that work??
Is students does not have even the right to get acknowledge for there hard work??
And this conferences or articles are the platform where they get that type of reward. And i do not feel the professor should feel embarrassed for that.
Even i also try to disclose one more fact from my survey from students and other faculty. That many professors at world-class universities uses to put their friends names on papers, confident that the favor will be returned in due course.
Is this the real science ??

I recently acquired a somewhat more differentiated position:
- Provided the PhD student contributed research/original contribution of his own, not mentioning him is unethical/immoral/whatever...
- If the PhD student was not more than some "work slave" (contributing work force, but no original intellectual contribution), I'd consider this ok. (Would be nice if the work slaves were mentioned, but this is hardly doable.)
Why this opinion? Because I leaned to know some PhD students, that might or might not acquire a PhD title, but have absolutely nothing original to contribute.

I think such problems are more likely to arise when students aren't talking. Talking openly about credit early in the research project may be the key to avoiding authorship disputes and further maintaining the peaceful relationship.
Supervisor should also conduct the group meeting to know the percent of contribution of students in particular script before submission in Journal.
