In 2014, the Association for Psychological Science started the Wikipedia Initiative. With the help of its members and university students they want to improve the quality and quantity of the information about psychological science presented in Wikipedia. I attached some of their explanations below.
I didn't mean for this to be a separate discussion. I was trying to respond to what someone else started. However, It looks like the end result will be the same. Ian has the most input that I have seen related to the APS Initiative. The way he organized his student's contributions was excellent. I tried to contribute, but also found the editors to be quite tough- which is good. I don't know how strict they need to be, but the fact there are professors like Ian tells me things will work out and the Wikipedia Initiative goals will eventually be reached. The project is a good example of what pure academics can be with the goal being accurate presentation of psychology, not publish or perish. Everyone is to be congratulated.

Postgrads as curriculum developers
I gave one of my my postgraduate classes the task of contributing to Wikipedia (for marks). I created and gave them a "home page" consisting of my headings for the syllabus. They each had to pick a topic to research and produce a Wikipedia entry. They found that the feedback from the Wikipedians was very tough, but they persisted, spending more time on my subject than than was a fair share. A few of the topics were not selected, as there were more topics than students.

The next year, I moved the initiative to Wikiversity, in order that I could get my new intake of students to add exercises this time around.

The last year I ran the course, the students now had to produce research papers for a journal.
A key factor in producing the content was that, in a separate course, I taught the same students Research Methods. I would still recommend this 2-stage process to get quick but tough feedback first, then didacticise the material.
