Probably due to the similarity of parsnip and celery plants, and maybe because of the high quantity of furanocoumarins, and their ability to cause phototoxic reactions.
Yes there is similarity between Pastinaca sativa (parsnip) and Apium graveolens (celery) because both of them belongs to the same family (Apiaceae). Pastinaca sativa is also cultivated as root vegetable in European countries.
