We had kept DMEM, high glucose with 10% FBS and 1% Pen/Strep at 37 degrees and left for 2 days in the incubator (media alone, no cells) to check for contamination. I have attached the images for what was observed under microscope. These are static and the media color was unchanged and no turbidity was there. Can anyone suggest if this is actually contamination or not?
If the media remained clear with no turbidity or color change, it is unlikely to be contamination. Contamination usually causes visible signs such as turbidity, color shifts, or microbial growth. Static particles under the microscope could be debris rather than contamination, especially if they do not show motility or growth. To confirm, you can try plating the media to check for microbial growth or further examine it under the microscope for any signs of life.
