Absolutely. What is being taught now is both outdated & irrelevant. Both knowledge resides more in private hands, and technology has changed dramatically.
The curriculum does not necessarily have to be changed. However, it can be modified to suit present situation India is facing. Most of what we have in curriculum these days are important, but the ideas on which they are premised have become archaic, and needs to be revisited.
The course curriculum of the discipline of Agril. extension in SAU (India) has been changed 3 years back by the 5th Dean s' Committee. The changes made as per requirement of present scenario especially with the advent of ICT tools and changing agri scenario emphasizing skill development and communication. However, the changes should not be made at the cost of discipline basics ideology and philosophy. In the changed syllabus, the content/ topics in some of the courses in B.Sc. Agri.part I & II are overlapping and have repetition of topics that needs refinement. There is need to have more emphasis on practical skills inculcate among students to make them more competitive and better graduates.
Exactly, since technologies, situations, policies and environment are continuously changing so to avoid the cultural lag the curriculum should be changed to provide real time education as well extension service for speedy development of agriculture
As the extension system of the Government has shrunk, the private knowledge providers are playing a dominant role. How honest and fair they will be in not pushing inappropriate products for their own business interests is an issue. Various Start-Ups are attempting to provide extension services ti farmers.
Develop and institutionalize research and extension linkage in each each province/state with tusk and functioan:
1. Carried out adaptive research to develop location specific technology.
2. Speeding up technology dissemination and adoption to and users (farmer or farmers group) through demonstration farm (dem-farm) or mass production approach.
3. Choose cooperative farmer or farmers group to joint technology dissemination as cooperator.
4. Develop data base both ex-ante and ex-post diisemination through structure suvei for cooperator and non-cooperator farmers.
5. The impact of research and extension lingkage for farmers benefit and added value can be evaluated by analizing those mentioning survey.
6. Sustainability research and extension impact or feed back can be improved basad on impact assessment study.
That all suggestion yo develop research and extention lingkage pathway. Thanks
I believe there is always the need to update curriculums to suit the prevailing realities of the domiciled communities of institutions. Agricultural extension as a dynamic and very versatile course, coupled with the revolution of communication systems (ICTs) which is greatly gaining wider acceptability by farmers, plus the willingness to pay for advisory service by agricultural investors demand that it should be changed periodically. However, the curriculum should not be changed radically but it should be a gradual process of fine tuning to meet the needs and aspiration of the immediate communities.
Without second thought, we need thorough revamping . infact , entire extension policy need a revisiting based on our experiences from past modus operandi about extension ....
Exactly, their is need to revamp the extension curriculum based on the changing crop production scenarios at various regions/states under changing climatic conditions. Moreover, how best the changed curriculum could be utilized at stakeholders level at most efficiently is depends on the team work and efficiency of the extension workers.
I do agree with the points suggested by Dr Mukesh Kumar .Further, there is no coordination b/n Extension wing of SAUs and extension deptt. of state govts. The linkages b/n farmers, extension specialists and agriculture deptt. should be improved along with the revamping of syllabus.
Yes it may be changed as all SAU's are looking forward to transfer their technology from lab to land land as soon as possible in which extension persons is the main linkage between SAU's and farmers.
