Look at the history of B-Sky-B now called Sky in the UK, and their mobile and broadband presence in addition to a broadcast and HD-personal video recording service package (subscription). Compare with public funded (heavy tax) of BBC, free-to-air in the UK, with a wide internet presence (streaming) federated by their i-player.
An interesting event has been the London 2012 Olympic Games, extensively covered by the BBC on Broadcast TV, Broadband and Mobile with flexible addition of channels (it's called red button, and means adding resources when events demand it). Every sport was covered, and most individual events... This is still a great reference point. No alternate streaming had as wide a coverage of Olympic sports as they happened.

In the Unitied States, Cable TV is in decline. Few people under 30 have cable and prefer streaming services.
Young people are used to "binge watching." They do not want to wait a week for the next episode of a series. They want to watch episode after episode after episode, all together. Or they wantg to watch when THY want to watch, not when the episode is scheduled on the network. Streaming is much easier than DVRs or other kinds of recording of episodes from cable.
Almost none of my university students have cable TV or intend to get it (but they have money for expensive smart phones, Hunter boots, Canada Goose jackets, and Apple laptops...).
Within less than a generation Cable TV till be as dead as VHS rentals, magazine stores, and affordable housing).
