RNA can elicit innate immunity in cultured cells during CRISPR editing, a fact that further supports the growing use of Cas9-synthetic gRNA as an RNP for superior editing in mouse embryos. But, are there TLRs and PAMPs on the surface of the zygote to bind nucleic acids and elicit innate immunity? For example, can interferon genes be induced in the mouse zygote upon injection with in vitro transcribed sgRNA?
