Another simple but inelegant solution is to use the heatmap function in R. Just make a matrix of ones and zeroes for your samples and genes of interest.

I tried using Heatmap from R but it looks messy.

Another option is to produce an html tile diagram as outlined here: http://informatics.systemsbiology.net/visualizations/heatmap/bioheatmap.html
