I have a 30 mm thick plate AA7050 alloy and I want to reduce the residual stresses without altering the microstructure; so I cannot heat up the specimen. What techniques are out there? Is it possible for 30 mm block or it's too thick?
you may want to consider using of the Vibratory Stress Relief (VSR) technique. According to the relevant literature, this method is able to modify the residual stress magnitude and, in some cases, improve the fatigue performance of the material.
