Contemporary literature considers both strain energy density (SED), (area under the stress-strain curve), and critical energy release (ERR, Gc) rate as a measure of fracture toughness. However, they are quantitatively different. I was wondering if there exists any relation between SED and ERR that can help obtaining one quantity from another? Thanks
