I'm an undergraduate student of CSE department. I'm a newbie in research works. I'm also new in telecom sector.
I'm doing my thesis on " Performance Evaluation of different scheduling algorithms for resource allocation of massive MIMO in 5G ". I've been reading some papers on this topic but i'm getting confused. Because, from my study level i only know about these scheduling algorithms. Which are:
- First come, first served
- Priority scheduling
- Shortest remaining time first
- Fixed priority pre-emptive scheduling
- Round-robin scheduling
- Multilevel queue scheduling
But none of the papers are describing or mentioning about these algorithms. Which is make me confused.
So, for doing my thesis work can i use these algorithms or is there any specific algorithms for massive MIMO?
If someone please let me know, it will be very helpful.

First, you need to understand why you want to work on developing scheduling algorithms for massive MIMO systems. Then, you can proceed with this study. Recently, I am working on scheduling and radio resource management and I got excited about working on this topic in general way rather than focusing on one specific system (as you mentioned massive MIMO). If you have decided to work on massive MIMO scheduling algorithm, then you need to develop some algorithms that are really quite different than the existing ones.
One of the key goals with Massive MIMO is to alleviate the need for scheduling, since the users are separated spatially, instead of in time or frequency. So you need to ask yourself: when is scheduling needed?
The answer might be that the users that request transmission are too closely located to be separated by the Massive MIMO base station. I recommend you to read Myth 6 in https://arxiv.org/pdf/1503.06854.pdf
Scheduling is the process of distributing the communications resources among the active users. There is the random allocation and the scheduled allocation.
In massive MIMO systems the users use the same frequency and the same time but the space is divided between them. But the space division is done by the process of precoding for beam forming and decoding for beam focusing.
This is just very theoretical approach.
From my point of view one can divide the antennas into groups and control these groups for directed beam forming to occupy a specific direction in the space.
And so this may be affect physically space division. On the other side the space division is dictated by the locations of the users which is random.
