I am looking for software allowing for automatic identification of individual animals basing on their body weight (via digital scales connected to PC) and for calculating amount of food eaten by certain individuals? I would appreciate any recommendations.
Patrick, you are right. The weights would overlap. But if we choose animals with different body weights (difference of 15-20g for adult rats would be probably big enough) it could work. Our idea is to observe social learning in groups of 3-4 rats, which I forgot to mention in my question.
Patrick, I agree there is a risk of misidentification. The experimental plan definitely needs a pilot study to adjust safe weight ranges for observed animals to minimize the risk of overlapping. I suppose that among healthy adult rats with ad libitum access to food and water weight variability would be pretty small, making the weight ranges relatively stable over time. There is still a question of software.
