I am currently doing research about trust. For this purpose, I consider social anxiety (Leary, 1983) as one of predictor of trust among people who give/ask for a ride to strangers. Unfortunately, I cannot find any prior research related to this case. Thanks in advance!

I can just share from personal experience. About 10 years ago, it was safe to give a ride to strangers. I myself have thumbed for rides when I was a student. I walked to school, and occasionally I cycled. I needed about 45 minutes walking as fast as I could. But now our anxiety has risen as our society becomes more complex, and crime has increased. It's not so safe anymore to ask or to provide a lift to strangers anymore.
(I also could not find a research on that issue. What I got was "Prince’s Trust Macquarie Youth Index 2015 reveals that anxiety is gripping young people’s confidence, with more than one in 10 often feeling too anxious to leave the house and over half worried about everyday situations".)
