I'm currently researching about relationship-contingent self esteem, based on contingencies of self-worth theory proposed by Crocker & Wolfe (2001). I've been scouring through Proquest, Science Direct and even Google Scholar, and can't seem to find any recent ones, especially those that were published on 2011 and upward.
Yes, there has been much research on the social aspect of self-esteem. A good place to start is with Leary and Baumeister's sociometer theory. It basically says that self-esteem is a measure of social integration or the quality of our relationships.
You can also do a search on self-esteem and intimacy to find similar research.
@David Dunaetz: Thank you for the info. I will look into it. I've come across a few studies mentioning the sociometer theory, but haven't really had an idea to start from there.
