CrAlN (different Al composition) coatings were subjected to wear (room temperature) at different parameters. For a particular composition, say 17% Al, the sample was subjected to wear tests by increasing the sliding distance from 500 m to 850 m at 10 N load. The wear rate decreased in this case. Any reason behind the decrease in wear rate ? Similar case was observed for other samples too (I am not comparing my findings with anyone else) !!
Test parameters of Dry sliding wear
Load - 10 N
Sliding distance - 500 and 850 m
Friction counterpart - Ruby ball (Hardness 2200-2400 HV)
Sliding velocity - 0.2 m/s
Temperature - Room Temp.
