I am not well informed in this area and this might be a silly question.
Please help me out and if possible, I would like a detailed method or link to get to know more of this area of discussion.
I have Germanium nanoparticles capped with halides (Chlorine or Bromine).
I wish to find out the surface coverage of Germanium nanoparticles by these capping halides (Br or Cl).
Is there a method to find out the relative percentage surface coverage of these nanoparticles by halide cappings?
I don't how the Cl or Br is linked to the Ge surface, is it by direct covalent bond?
Assuming that's it, I suggest to
- make elemental analysis, then you know how many Cl or Br atoms are in (let's say:) 1 g
- you prepare a dispersion of your nanoparticles (or you already have it) and measure particle size, maybe by Laser Doppler method
- in case you have several fractions, you take the average size of each fraction and calculate the surface area for each fraction (you know the number of particles in each fraction, the mesurement will tell you, then you can calculate the specific surface area)
- then you add up and know all the total surface area
- combining with the information how many Cl atoms you have, you can deduct the coverage.
another (maybe silly) question from me: how is it possible your question is dated (at least it shows so here on my computer) as of Oct 16, 2013, but I can already answer on Aug 10, 2013?
