I'm currently coding and entering my questionnaire data into SPSS, and I'm struggling with entering the items with questions where participants chose more than one option.
Example: Which of the following languages do you speak?
a) English
b) Igbo
c) Pidgin
d) Nigerian English
So a respondent who speaks English and Igbo would choose a) and b).
I've seen some YouTube videos and they all appear to suggest that the individual responses be coded as separate variables. This process appears long and complex to me. So I'm wondering if there's a simpler way to do go around this.

Thanks a lot for your message. As far as I know, there is no other way of coding multiple choice items - independly of whether this is done in SPSS or elsewhere.

Hi, My answer to your question is yes. You can give answers numbers and enter the answers as follows:
English = 1
Igbo = 2
Pidgin = 3
Nigerian English = 4
and when discussing the results, you can use the name of the language instead of the numbers.
