Genetic Programming implementation in ECJ toolkit provides options to set minimum and maximum depth a tree can have while using it for symbolic regression. Are there any options to set the minimum and maximum number of nodes a GP-tree can have during evolution?

However, I'm assuming there isn't an option for this, since it would impact on the efficiency of the crossover and mutation operators. Is there a reason why you wish to limit the number of nodes rather than the depth?
You might also consider cartesian genetic programming (CGP), which does place a constraint on the number of nodes that can appear in a solution, due to the use of a fixed grid size. There's a CGP module in ECJ.
