What is your favorite learning content authoring tool? I am looking for interactive learning content authoring tools that are open-source and competitive like Adobe Captivate.
For me it depends on the aim of the activity. In case you require a quizz or a poll, Socrative is my favorite. If I require to share ppt or similar material, Nearpod is the best option for me. Besides both or them are free and work on any device I have tested.
If you are looking for open source software, you can take a look at Open Sankoré and CamStudio. Great free (but not opensource tools) are Jing and Screencast-O-Matic. I use Screencast-O-Matic and YouTube editor for editing screencasts and adding annotations, which is very powerful combination of free services.
You might want to try SwishMax if you want to experience animation and interactivity. Besides, it gives you the experience of a real instructional designer and multimedia author.
Thank you all for your answers, what I am looking for is a tool where I can author interactive material all in one package (SCORM - compliant), like having a lecture with a video, a game-based activity, animation, digital stories, etc. to teach specific topics of STEM for school education.
Thanks Mart, I couldn't find any, that's why I posted this question.
Mart as you are interested in Education using wordpress and CMS for open education, have you seen H5P [http://h5p.org]. do you have any experience on it?
H5P have cool stuff and supports Wordpress, Drupal, and Joomla. they are working on Moodle support. I doubt its stability and i guess they face technical problems. However, its worth looking at.
See the comparison of three OS authoring tools at https://weblearn.ox.ac.uk/access/content/group/29beec9b-9270-4f36-ad4b-85d30fba1545/compare.html
Xerte Online Toolkits is the one that seems to have the most momentum, including joining the Open Apereo initiative, https://www.apereo.org/content/xerte-online-toolkits-joins-apereo-incubation-process
However, from the sample output on its website, it still has a way to go before it's quality is comparable with commercial tools.
