Hi scholars! During the lock down, we need to move our classes online. Before this, majority of my classes were blended, so student learning time (SLT) is not a big issue. However, since everything online, students look tired, and I am tired too. Suddenly I feel like the existing syllabus is not suitable for online class but of course I cannot change the syllabus. Is there any way or guideline to check SLT for online class? Appreciate your comments and feedback. Thank you.

The first thing I did was change my syllabus to accommodate the new modality. However, I retained course objectives and also carved out and exercise category worth 15% of the total grade to hopefully encourage continued participation. In regard to everyone being tired, some of this I suspect is a bit of culture shock to the new modality along with all the symptoms (fatigue, irritability, etc.). Regarding being tired moving forward I believe we need to be more careful for ourselves as instructors and also with students in terms of estimating amount of time needed to accomplish the tasks that we are attempting. It is necessary to adhere to the rules of learning for the benefit
There is no schedule so far. It needs to be developed. I am getting lots of calls on eye strain problems with it.
How to do online teaching
We need to schedule time it can be 20 minutes for schools and 40 minutes for college students
We need to control content, just put key words and some pictures on slide
Avoid copy and paste documents
In longer sessions give break of 2 to 3 minutes
Do 2-4 sessions maximum per day
Avoid small screens and fonts instead use TV screen at 3 meter, computer 50 cm, mobile reading could be most exhausting.

Online learning depends on many things, including: students ’abilities, the nature of the course, the learning outcomes to be achieved, etc. And this is what the teacher decides based on these matters.

N. Noraini It looks at assignments and so it is good for reading, exams, etc. So in that sense, it does. It is far from comprehensive but it is a start. I am not sure how westernized it is so perhaps some sort of conversion needs to be done with estimates.

Only that the fast changing of the education landscape due to the Covid19 outbreak give the hard time for the instructors to figure out the best solution to cope with online learning. But I am sure all of us are trying our best to delivery the contents to the students.
