Hello, I want to use a qualitative data analysis software but as I see all the most useful ones like nVivo, MaxQda, Atlas.ti etc. are paid softwares. I wonder is there a free and good alternative software for this purpose?
They all give you two weeks to use the program for free to try it out. The only other program that I know that is free to use is CAT https://cat.texifter.com/
Berat Cicek Good afternoon, I used NVivo and thought it was hard at first I loved it. I have tried to use CAT and could not figure out how to use it for anything.
If you want something for free, QDA Miner Lite is definitely the way to go. Alternatively, if you just have a relatively small project, Dedoose is cloud-based and charges you by the hour.
Not free but cheaper than some others is the 'basic' version of Transana: https://www.transana.com/products/transana-basic/
I used this specifically because I was working on a Mac and had to process video files.
There is a student rate for Transana basic (USD75). I'm not up to date with the current versions and their capabilities; by the time I finished my project on Transana, nVivo on Mac had been upgraded, now does what I need and I have access to it through an institutional licence.
You can download QDA MINER LITE with is free qualitative data analysis software and offers basic CAQDAS features or a 30 days trial version of QDA Miner ( the full version).
Did you try out "QCA map" as an alternative for MaxQDA? Surely, MaxQDA is quite more comfortable, but QCAmap is also a gerat alternative without payment involved. You have to create an account but there is no charge or anything (however you could donate some money, if you liked the program).
I'm using QRDA and QCApro packages on R. They are stables, open-source and free... Also, you can run it on PC or Mac. You need basic knowledge about R but there is available a lot of information online to help.
Yes, there are open source QDA software alternatives such as RQDA and Sci2 Tool. For a comparative guide to qualitative and quantitative data analysis software and more information on the alternatives, please visit https://researchguides.uoregon.edu/c.php?g=567658&p=3940638.
