Intresting question, I was recently trying to find out swich over to mania or hypomania due to ECT in people treated for depression or psychosis , but didnt come acorss anything like this. Though it can be argued that coming out of depression or even some form of hyperhymia in itself can lead to increased activity whihc can be creative in nature as well. But in other cases it can be opposite due to adverse effects on memory and cognition in general.
Thanks Mohammad. As ECT is a holistic treatment, it is possible that in some cases, it could stimulate those areas in the brain that produce creativity. ECT can also have other positive side effects - see my article in the Journal of ECT Electroconvulsive Therapy A theory for the Mechanism of Action - link below thttp://www.carrierclinic.org/informationcenter/ElectroconvulsiveTherapy.pdf
It seems that no studies have been done on post ECT patients in regards to other positive benefits of ECT in addition to getting patients out of their severe depression.
I will give some thought about your question. Good question! Of course, there is the thought provoking idea that creativity can benefit from depression....This may be one reason bipolar disorders are correlated with creativity.
