I came across few papers on circaseptan rhythms. I am interested to know if someone is currently working on circaseptan rhythms. Is there any evidence that they are intrinsic?
This is Menna from Brazil. I once read a very interesting book by Zerubavel "The 7-day circle", are you aware of that? I can send you the full reference if needed. I konw that Fanz Halberg has worked on some circaseptan rhythms back in the 70's. A very interesting question concerns the social construction of the week, perhaps biology has a foot on what has been considered as part of religion traditions.
Franz Halberg published on this topic for many years, and we discussed this many times. While Franz was rather settled on the matter, continued research, which has now a deep metabolomic and genomic foundation, has demonstrated that the average human many-days (multidien) rhythm is 8-9 days. In the deep human evolutionary past it was 7-8 days. It would be interesting and provocative to suggest that the Roman calendar has a basis in metabolism, though a sticking point is that not only is there variability in the length of the rhythm, we are certainly not synchronized. However, I agree that it would be worth continued thinking about the problem.
A paper on the 7-d rhythms has just been accepted and will be published, I hope soon, by CBI. This is a review paper that takes into account the several facets of circaseptans including social and religious aspects.
