Disbelievers quotes in the Quran
The several/many quotes about the disbelievers in the Quran are normally assumed to be addressed to atheists (at least it was my interpretation).
But, 1000 years ago I now doubt there were any openly atheist people (science was not explaining enough natural phenomena back then to “replace” god in the mind of the people).
Disbelievers probably refer to people who disbelieve Mohammed was actually “talking with angels” (i.e. all the other religions).
So my question is: is there any consensus about the meaning of –disbelievers- among the researchers who study the Quran?
There was no agreement among them the infidels among the interpreters, but the verses of the Koran are explicit in identifying the infidels and differ from what the Muslims said about the infidels. For example, the Salafist Islam, led by Saudi Arabia, expiates anyone who does not follow their false path.
