I would also suggest Matlab. As student you should easily get a student license. It has various built in tools which can assist you with different control design methods to solve your problem, as PID controller tuning, Hinf synthesis, etc. Good luck!

I would like to suggest Plecs standalone from Plexim. In this software you may implement controller in a C language.

Generally it is not for free, but it is possible to obtain free student version if there exists at least one Academic license at Your University.

If you are looking for a free software, Scilab seems to be a quite good option.

Sir, is Matlab and Scilab similar? Actually I have no idea about those softwares, but I have to learn those and complete my project quickly.

I suggest MATLAB/Simulink, as there are lots of available modules and packages. I also, suggest to use the S-functions in Simulink, in which you can easily design the controller. Have a look at the following book, in which there are lots of examples and also the codes are given.

You may also, find the my codes which I have developed for one of my paper. You can modify it and then use it for your own purposes.

If you are going to build a prototype of the Gas Leak Detection System with Event-triggered Control (ETC), then I'd recommend Arduino microcontroller.

If you have budget constraints and you require the basic capabilities of the MATLAB's Control System Toolbox for system analysis, then I'd recommend GNU Octave, a free computational tool that is largely compatible with MATLAB.

By the way, is IoT a kind of new software tool for designing the automated gas leakage detection system?

As for free stuff, I suggest SageMath and GNU Octave. I suppose these are as good as you can get for free.

SageMath also has a cloud version called COCAL. It's a good option if you've got a low-end computer. It doesn't come free though.

Also, I suppose you can download a student version of Matlab for a relatively low price.

Yew-Chung Chak Sir, IoT means Internet of Things. If you use internet in a real time physical system then the system will be under IoT. I am developing a gas leakage detection system with IoT technology, it is quite faster to control things as well as sensing and monitoring sensor data from anywhere of the world.

An easy way (the easiest?) to design control systems is the toolbox of MATLAB.

I would suggest OpenModelica and Scilab/Scicos. Both are open source softwares. Scilab is relatively small program and is more than sufficient for 90% of real control problems. OpenModelica is much more bigger. But it has much greater capabilities. You can describe your system using schematic, simulate the system, see the results. It can do advanced mathematics, circuit simulation, control system simulation, hydraulic system, mechanical systems etc. Your system can be a mixture of two are all types of systems. It can have analog, digital, blocks, equations, single phase, multiphase, linear, nonlinear ...

The best is MATLAB. There is a GNU version, Octave.

Free software the best similar to Matlab is SCILAB. However, you can use also Python, which also has many libraries for control systems.
