I use FEM-based COMSOL for waveguide analysis, and I am aware that AI is being increasingly utilized for such studies. I am also interested in gaining knowledge in this area to accelerate my research calculations.
Yes, there is a growing body of AI-based research focusing on the design and analysis of photonic crystal waveguides, the most ones I've read so far uses artificial neural networks for predicting the effective and group refractive index. I really enjoyed seeing the evolution when I compare with the FEM and FDTD simulations I used to do a few years ago.
