I know annexin-v is used to identify its presence, but is there a way to actually quantify it and differentiate it from PS inside the cellular membrane? (Also, is there a membrane-impermeable dye that can only localize with outer PS? Would an anti-PS antibody do the work? )

Hi Ariadne, you might want to look into permeabilized vs non-permeabilized immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence. In the non-permeabilized approach you should only be able to detect extracellular PS (ensure you are not detecting intracellular proteins via a proper control). In the permeabilized approach, you should be able to detect both intracellular and extracellular PS. The difference between the two might provide you the information you are looking for.
