Generally metastatic breast cancers are induced in athymic mice using cell lines and maintaining the athymic mice is really challenging. I wish to know whether metastatic breast cancer can be induced in a normal mice (either through chemical inducer or cell lines or grafts). Please help.
Well, you could try the 4T1 breast cancer cell line which originates from Balb/c, see link below. The challenge is, however, that you engraft the primary tumor in the mammary fat pad to trigger metastases to the lung. It won't work if the tumor is growing subcutaneously. Good luck!

EMT 6 cell line also is good model in Balb/c mice using tail vein injection. 4T1 cell line also can use i.v. injection and s.c. injection.
Orthotopic or ectotopic implantation of 4T1 cells in the skin or mammary fat pad, should form primary tumors followed by the formation of metastasis.
