I am working on parental beliefs about mathematics and it teaching and learning and want to investigate, in which ways parents support their children with their mathematics education. Therein I am focusing on early secondary school (11-12 year old students).

Based on the broader literature on parental involvement in students' homework I have constructed a scale measuring different types of involvement (e.g., autonomy support or interference). This work has been published in BJEP recently, here is the reference:

I am working on a project investigating transitions from Primary to Secondary schooling and what factors make that transition productive. We are focussing on the role of the teachers but we also recognise the role of parents; therefore, I would am very interested in your findings (once published).

Hi Natascha,
Your best bet is to adapt a certain scale to your project. Most parents consider their involvement in their children's education important. However, the higher the grade level the child attains the less parents get involved. Thus you may find it difficult to find much research on parents involvement in secondary levels, and specifically grades 11 -12. You may check the scales used in articles that deal with parents' influence on their children's education, such as "Parental Involvement and the Theory of Planned Behavior."
It may be aslo useful to check the different scales used in researches other than education that can be adapted to your topic.

thanks for your ideas. i did check some scales from other projects with parents, but did not find a fitting combination of characteristics. I will have a look at "Parental Involvement and the Theory of Planned Behavior". That I didn´t check. Thanks a lot for that thought!
