I have been digging arond a bit. Seems Avago/Broadcom stopped production due to a lack of request. And no, there seems to be nothing available that is "betterl" in every aspect. I could not find anything beating the 100 ps carrier lifetime - other devices were in the 200 ns. Though this is more about reverse recovery - which should be a minor issue.

An old HP document (attached) suggests that a BAT54 might be able to replace its successor again. This one is widely available and might be available as a pin-for-pin replacement.

Another candidate (as with many discrete devices: not specified completely) might be the Vishay SS12.

Hello, thank you very much for digging and for your fast reply! Indeed, the BAT54 isn't as good as the HSMS-270, and the SS12 looks like an order of magnitude stronger (current-wise) but correspondingly bulkier (nearly 300 pF).

It's strange that there wasn't enough demand for a fine diode like this ... I will try to get some old stock.

Hello Siddhant, thank you very much for your suggestion! These diodes look fine, and it's great that one can choose from four different barrier heights. Unfortunately, Rs is more than six times larger than in the HSMS-270, and Ifmax is seven times lower; so, depending on the application, one had to use up to seven Skyworks diodes in parallel as replacement for one HSMS-270.

MACOM does very similar diodes. Some have direct replacements.

For example HSMS-281C-TR1G can be replaced by
