Simply mix ethereal HCl with your amine while controlling the temperature.
You can also enclose an open container of conc. HCl and your amine in a desiccator then allow HCl fumes to slowly crystallize with your amine.

But if these compounds are only sparingly soluble in methanol? Could other solvents like chloroform, acetone or benzene be used in stead of methanol?
First question is,Is your compound is amine,?If your answer is yes. then you can use methanol in etheral .HCl. Otherwise you can use other solvents such chloform or benzene.I do not advice use of acetone.
yea, it is a tertiary amine (but very weakly basic). it is also sparingly soluble in ethanol, but have better solubility in other solvent like chloroform and acetone
