I'm looking for a recognised method to quickly assess the floral quality of a grassland field from the roadside, ideally to allow classification as either improved or species-rich. I know how this can be done using quadrats to look for a threshold prevalence of indicator species, but I have a large number of fields to classify and only require a very basic assessment. The experiment is based in South-East England. Is there way of visually assessing a field from the roadside and classifying it as improved or species-rich (or similar classification related to floral abundance/diversity)?
