I'm trying to avoid the aggregation caused by sodium borohydride and if there is a reference where they developed a method of synthesis for such a small nanoparticle size without using sodium boroydride and preferably using DLS as a characterization technique I would like to know.
Please use conventional polyol method. Example, starting material of Pt is added in a round-buttom flask containing solvent and heat it at ~160 C with magnetic bar for stirring which is helpful to prevent the aggregation of nanoparticles. Choosing temperature for heating is dependent on the boiling of the solvent (polyol). I think you will have desirable size of Pt nanoparticles.
You could try the procedure described in this reference: Osmic et al. CrystEngComm, 2014, 16, 9907 (DOI: 10.1039/c4ce01342e). This is a two step procedure where 2nm colloidal platinum particles are used as seeds to grow larger ones. I didn't test it yet but it looks promising.
