I´m conducting a research where I need to estimate carbon emissions for the transportation of wood products shipped overseas (ocean and air). Thus, I´m looking for information on carbon emission factors for international ocean and air shipping. Furthermore, since wood products are often produced in rural areas, also local trucking carbon emissions are important. I´m looking for information on this by country or world region. Any body who has done something similar could provide some good places to start the search. Thank you!
Your general question (international transport) is a lot different from the specifics of hauling wood products. If you are interested in the general issue of carbon emissions for international transport, there are many excellent sources on air passenger and freight costs. The World Bank has this:

Dear Prof. O'Kelly, I will be interested to see your paper ! We will also be shortly posting a commentary in Environment and Planning B about the problem of CO2 transport-related emission and its scaling with population (I can send you the pdf file of that). In particular, the analysis done by economists such as Glaeser is not correct and cannot be trusted. The vulcan project is a good source of data for the US (there is probably some data on the OECD website).

In my opinion the ECOTRANSIT can promote important informations when you are planning Modal Shift System besides the company can get one idea about the possible environmental impact by each logistic process for cargo distribution . However, I would like to discover how the international law has been acccepted this method in this kind of procedures as legal forms to international transport to an other country? I would like to hear from researchers Mr Panagakos and Mr Barthelemy about the doubt of question: if is it there some international law to protect the better way of decision by sustainable transport process?
I'm not sure I understand the question but if I do, I think that when it comes to emission calculators the reliability aspects are the most important ones. I know that EcoTransIT was in the process of being certified by CEN (the European Standardisation Agency) but I don't know the outcome. As for the legal enforcement of sustainable transport, I support regulatory interventions only when there is no other way to adress market failures. Here, the introduction of a CO2 tax, for example, can internalise the related external costs and lead to optimal solutions since the shippers and services providers will have a range of available options open to select from depending on their own evaluation criteria.
I tend to agree that some sort of legislation (e.g., banning of highly polluting fuels or requiring efficient motors-BAT) is necessary in those sectors or countries where main actors have the power to maintain status quo or execute limited actions; however, in most cases non-regulatory options provide the flexibility, transparency, and participation from multiple stakeholders to create a competitive environment for innovation and eco-efficiency.
