Is there a fluoride home application compliance test, that would tell the use of fluoride in past week or month? Something similar to the glycated hemoglobin test that tells you your average level of blood sugar over the past 2 to 3 months.
We are evaluating telephone interventions to increase fluoride compliance for post -radiation caries patients. We would like to use something more objective than just self reported yes or no.
There is an old and semi-invasive method, but has not been used much in recent research:

In my opinion, laboratory fluoride tests are very expensive. I dont know any home test.
There is no home test for topical fluoride (F) application. Tests include enamel F uptake and salivary F concentration. The amount of F acquired by enamel can be obtained by biopsied enamel using micro-sampling acid etch technique [
Hattab FN, Wei SHY. Chemical changes and surface morphology of acid-etching of human enamel treated with topical fluoride agents in vitro. Caries Res 1987;21:282-293]. Saliva F concentration can directly be determined using F-sensitive electrode. Ingestion of F can be determined by elevated plasma and urinary F level using F-electrode.

The enamel acid etch biopsy at 3 depths is a great idea. Are these concentrations related to the frequency of Topical Fluoride Agents compliance in a specific period, like 1 or 2 weeks?
