Electrical Engineering is very braod, i dont think CS+EE=CE. Because, EEs work with curvy waves (analog), and CompEs work with sharp, square waves (digital or binary).

In research and development before practical implementation researcher able to simulate the whole thing , analyze, develop in computer. After analyze they going for practical implementation (where computer may be used for monitoring, controlling, In some cases there is no need for computer interface ). Not only electrical circuit or electrical system other system in engineering field like mechanical, civil, electronics etc also can be simulate, analyze through computer. . So we can't say CS+EE=CE.
It has been a general observation that computer & electrical engineering are very interrelated. Most of the US universities have them both as one department with different disciplines\tracks. For instance, during my undergrad we (CE & EE students) where in the same classes till the third year with typical syllabus. After that each can select his major track. On the other hand, UK system is quit different, they consider the CE somehow is more or less as CS. From my understanding, CE & EE are different only in there applications and research objectives. For the CS (no hard feelings :D ) is more to produce technical students (with no principles of engineering and logical thinking).
Well history shows that Electrical Engineering preceded both computer science and computer engineering and in many ways gave birth to these disciplines but today they are high integrated.
In the early 1900 EE used Analogue Computers (see Gabriel Kron) to do the real time simulation of motors, drive systems and basic power systems. There were no CE or CS at that time and not even digital computers.
However in practice EE today combines all these aspects in an industry which is becoming far more complex. Embedded controllers, analogue, digital, protection systems and equipment using various field buses, data encryption and internet protocols, RS232/485/422 and code written in Java, C, C#, .et, visual basic etc, web servers, tablets, cellular, modems, GPS, GIS, SCADA, BMS,EMS, servers, databases, business intelligence, data visualisation, modems, telemetry, and SMS notification and alarming are in every day use. Power systems use very large online load flow (>50,000*50,000 matrices) and power loss optimisation and energy trading and routing algorithms and software so there are elements of CE and CS everywhere. EE uses most aspects of CE and CE (and many other disciplines) and was using this before they developed into separate academic disciplines.
Thus whilst the field of EE is very broad and encompasses many technologies and disciplines the reality is that CS and CE have evolved into their own disciplines as they have a wider remit than just EE.
Thus whether one graduates as an EE, CE or CS be prepared to learn as in the real world it is not so simple or linear and has become very integrated. Wait until you have to learn how HR policies, procurement, tenders, recruitment, performance management, KPI's, project management, corporate governance..........the list goes on has more impact on EE, CE and CS and which does not or rarely appears in the curriculum.
Up to 1965(I was in High school) most of the engineering college were giving common degree, Mechanical-Electrical engineering, and Civil was separate. With development in electrical engineering, Electrical was separated. Electronics-communication was separated around 1975, then around 77, CPU80 comes ,computer/microprocessor got cheaper, affordable, place of sliderule was grab by calculator with all functions(trigonometical etc) by engineering student, digital world (digital signal processing, setalite communication and WIFI) was changing fast!!!!!!!,difficult to copeup, Computer Engineering was separated!!!!!, found computer use in almost all field, so software expert(language) needed badly, computer science separate, Computer Engineering(hardware) were separated!!!!!.Hence it is the development of basic subject!!!!!!!.Grandkids cannot be considered separate!!!!!!!.Most of the skills shown for me, are not from my basic qualiefication of BS/MS.
Exactly. And yes the old slide rule, log and trig tables I remember well. Today it is apps, widgets, gadgets and our children and grandchildren learn how to use before they even go to play school. My son taught himself how to type playing online games.
I think electrical engineering contain two major branches , electric and electronic , and the electronics engineering is the mother of computer science , thats my point of view .
Both of these branches have Mathematics as Common base.
Analytical and logical thinking is predominent in Computer science,while strong Mathematics and physics concepts are essential for Electrical Engineers,
