All types of renewable energy (RE) need to be developed, for at least two reasons. First, different countries have different RE endowments. Iceland, for example, is well endowed with hydro and geothermal energy, but poorly endowed with solar energy. Second, although wind and solar have by far the largest technical potentials of all RE's, they are intermittent sources and hence will need energy storage if most energy is derived from them. Hence hydro, geothermal and biomass energy also need to be developed, consistent with maintaining vital ecosystem services.
RES based on solar energy is most developed (see IRENA report). However, geothermal energy is increasingly being used. The energy potential of the ocean and the ocean is also great, so we can expect a further development of energy, tide and tide energy systems. The major source of energy on our earth is the solar energy and so it will be the ultimate source of renewable energy. It could be used for heating and electricity generation. The generated electricity can be used to analyse the water and produce hydrogen that can be use as fuel for transportation.

According to IEA renewables will have the fastest growth in the electricity sector, providing almost 30% of power demand in 2023, up from 24% in 2017. During this period, renewables are forecast to meet more than 70% of global electricity generation growth, led by solar PV and followed by wind, hydropower, and bioenergy.
