I’m currently drafting a narrative review and would like to include a study‐selection flowchart for transparency. I know the PRISMA flow diagram is the gold standard for systematic reviews, but I’m unsure whether:

  • It’s acceptable to adapt PRISMA in a purely narrative context
  • Journals will expect or allow its use in narrative reviews
  • There are any best‐practice recommendations or alternative templates specifically for narrative syntheses
  • If you’ve used PRISMA (or a modified flowchart) in a narrative review, or if you know of guidelines or examples, I’d love to hear about your experience and any tips you can share. Thanks in advance!
